Innovative camping system unveiled

A new camping system called the PickupMate Trunk, developed by Chinese manufacturer Wild Land, allows pickup trucks to become two-story camping shelters quickly. The system is designed to be installed in the bed of a pickup truck and can be deployed to create a living and sleeping area in seconds.

Manufacturer's background

Wild Land, the company behind the PickupMate Trunk, was founded in 2002 in Xiamen, China. With over twenty years of experience in outdoor equipment and car camping, the company has built a reputation for innovative designs tailored for outdoor enthusiasts.

Installation and design features

The PickupMate Trunk is designed to be installed without drilling, fixed around the entire top edge of the pickup bed. When closed, it remains low, extending only about 24 to 25 inches above the bed's edges, leaving a large interior volume available for loading.

Deployment and structure

Once deployed, the system extends backward above the tailgate and forward above the cab, transforming the pickup bed into a two-story camping system. The lower level covers the entire bed, and the upper level includes a large arched tent with a foldable sleeping floor and ample interior height for sitting.

Sizes and technical specifications

The PickupMate Trunk is available in two sizes: a compact version for midsize pickups and a larger version for bigger models. Both include an onboard battery that powers the electric lifting system, LED lighting, and a 4.0 audio system.

Optional accessories and pricing

Optional accessories such as a 270-degree awning and a side shower tent can be added to expand the camping area. The PickupMate Trunk is available for pre-order in the United States for $9,099, or approximately €8,400, excluding the pickup truck itself.
