Arkheron, a 45-player action RPG PvPvE game developed by Bonfire Studios, has launched a cross-play beta that includes console support. The game is set in a dark fantasy universe where players must climb a mysterious tower to escape a curse. In the game, 15 teams of three players compete against each other and AI-controlled enemies. The beta includes several modes, such as a training mode, a pure combat mode with 45 players, and a one-on-one mode with multiple rounds to progress through floors of the tower.
In the main mode, players start with no equipment, weapons, or skills, following the mantra "you are what you wear." They must collect loot, including weapons, amulets, and consumables, to unlock abilities and improve their stats. The game allows players to switch between different weapons and relics, with each item slot unlocking specific abilities. The rarity of items affects the power of talents and the statistics budget allocated to characters.
One of the game's unique features is the Eternals system, where collecting four relics of the same set unlocks additional transformations and temporary appearances. This system was previously introduced during a PC hands-on session but had not been fully experienced in that format. The beta version confirms that the gameplay of Arkheron adapts well to console controls, with simple and intuitive handling.
However, some adjustments are still needed, particularly regarding the distribution of monsters on the map and the ability to quickly view the descriptions of collected items' abilities. Despite these issues, the game's mix of genres—ARPG, PvPvE, and battle royale—offers an original experience. The beta also highlights the importance of teamwork, as players must work together to survive and progress through the tower.
