Since September 29, 2026, players using consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series can now enjoy mod support for The Witcher 3 Remastered. Originally planned for an update at the end of 2025, the feature was delayed until the following year. The mod support was introduced alongside the release of The Witcher 3 Remastered for those playing on these next-generation consoles, allowing players to enjoy custom content created by other fans. Mod support for The Witcher 3 Remastered is managed through mod.io, a well-known platform for user-generated content in gaming. Players must link their PlayStation or Xbox account with their CD Projekt RED account, which can be created if they do not already have one. After agreeing to the terms of service, players gain access to a library of mods. From there, they can explore various creations, filter them by date, popularity, category (such as equipment or graphics), or language, although some content may be unavailable in certain languages. Once a player finds a mod they are interested in, they can download it directly from the platform. To activate the changes, they will need to restart the game. Uninstalling mods is also straightforward. Players can access the "Installed" tab via the L2 button on PS5 or LT on Xbox Series, where they can select one or more mods to remove. They can unsubscribe from a mod by clicking the appropriate option or using the Square button on PS5. After uninstalling, they must restart the game again to apply the changes. CD Projekt RED includes usage guidelines at the beginning of the game, reminding players that mods are third-party content and may cause bugs or unexpected issues. Players are advised to back up their game data before installing mods, either through cloud storage or a USB stick, to avoid losing progress. Additionally, installing a large number of mods—particularly when combined with save files—can increase loading times and slow down the game's performance. It is still unclear whether installing mods blocks trophies and achievements in The Witcher 3 Remastered. In theory, this could be the case, as seen with Baldur’s Gate 3, which also uses mod.io and blocks progress on trophies and achievements. However, CD Projekt RED has not confirmed this yet, and further testing is needed to determine the exact impact on The Witcher 3 Remastered. At the time of its launch, The Witcher 3 Remastered featured 45 mods, with the number expected to grow as modders update their content and as CD Projekt RED reviews and approves new additions. Some of the early mods include automatic victory in Gwent matches, alternative hairstyles and outfits, and even dance scenes with characters Yennefer and Triss.
