The developers of Ghostrunner, a popular first-person action game with elements similar to the challenging Soulslike genre, have announced that their upcoming title, Valor Mortis, will be priced lower than many other new games launching around the same time. This decision comes as the fall gaming season is unusually busy, with several major titles set to release in November and December. Valor Mortis is scheduled to launch on October 13, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The standard edition will cost €39.99 in Europe and around £34.99 in the UK, which is the same price as their previous game, Ghostrunner 2, but cheaper than other upcoming titles such as Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Gears Of War: E-Day. A deluxe edition of Valor Mortis will be available for €59.99 (£52), including access to major story expansions and cosmetic items like weapon skins. The developers also plan to release several free updates in the weeks and months after launch to enhance the game further. These updates are designed to provide players with more content and ways to enjoy the game over time. The decision to lower the price comes as the fall release schedule is unusually crowded. Many game developers have chosen to launch their titles earlier in the year, in September and October, to avoid competing with major releases planned for November and December, such as GTA 6 and the Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake. This has resulted in a number of high-profile games being released in quick succession, starting with Marvel's Wolverine and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, followed by EA Sports FC 27, Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, The Witcher 3 Remastered, and others. Lyrical Games, the publisher of Valor Mortis, said the pricing decision was carefully considered to ensure the game's value was not misunderstood. The company’s head, Blake Rochkind, called it “the craziest fall in the history of this business” due to the sheer number of major titles launching around the same time. He emphasized that the lower price was a reflection of the team’s confidence in the game’s quality and their desire to make it accessible to players even in a highly competitive market. October’s release schedule remains packed with additional titles like Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Phantom Blade 0. Whether the lower price will help Valor Mortis stand out among the competition remains to be seen, but the move highlights the strategic challenges of launching a game in such a crowded market.
