Londoners faced widespread travel disruptions across the Tube and the Elizabeth line today, as a mix of infrastructure problems and maintenance work caused significant delays. The London Underground, which carries millions of passengers daily, was particularly affected, with several lines experiencing major service interruptions. Commuters encountered long waits and altered routes as engineers worked to address the issues. One of the main causes of disruption was a collapsed drain at Baker Street station, which led to the complete suspension of the Circle line. Trains were forced to stop in central London, creating a ripple effect across the network. The Hammersmith and City line also faced severe delays, with services suspended in both directions between Euston Square and Edgeware Road. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan line was partially closed between Baker Street and Aldgate, further compounding delays on that route. The Central line was not spared either, with minor delays reported across several segments, including between Epping and Leytonstone, and North Acton and West Ruislip. These disruptions added to the growing list of challenges for London’s transport system. Meanwhile, passengers using the Elizabeth line were warned of severe delays between Abbey Wood and Heathrow Airport, as well as Reading, due to late finishing of maintenance work. This follows recent incidents of vandalism and a fire that affected the Elizabeth line, Great Western Railway, and Heathrow Express services over the weekend. In response, the Elizabeth line has implemented a reduced timetable until further notice, with train times and frequencies varying. Transport for London (TfL) informed customers of these changes in an email sent yesterday. In an effort to modernize transport options, a new trial of limited Uber Wayve robotaxi services has also been launched in London, aiming to introduce autonomous vehicle technology to the city’s transport network.
