Henry Pollock, a 21-year-old English rugby player who plays as a lock forward, has reportedly signed a contract extension with his club, Northampton Saints, according to The Times. While the club has not officially confirmed the deal, the newspaper reports that Pollock will remain with the team until 2029. The financial details of the contract have not been disclosed by Northampton, but The Times estimates that Pollock will earn around 400,000 pounds per season during the 2027-2028 and 2028-2029 seasons. This figure differs from the 1 million pounds per year mentioned by his representative, Eddie Hearn, though Newcastle Red Bulls, a club reportedly involved in negotiations, have not confirmed the exact amount. Pollock joined Northampton's academy as a child and made his professional debut at just 17 years old. He has already earned 13 caps with the England national team and took part in the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour. His rapid rise in international rugby followed his success in winning a world title with the under-20s in 2024. Beyond rugby, Pollock has also become involved with Matchroom, Hearn's agency, which aims to build him into a well-known public figure. Northampton Saints are currently facing financial challenges due to the Premiership salary cap, which limits clubs to spending 6.4 million pounds on player salaries for the season. The club has already signed Tommy Freeman, while George Furbank has moved on, showing the difficulty in retaining top talent. Pollock’s contract extension is considered vital for Northampton, as it secures a key player from their academy and someone who can represent the club's long-term vision. Last season, Pollock played a significant role in Northampton’s Premiership victory, starting in most matches, including the final stages of the season. He confirmed his potential as a professional during his first full season with the club, participating in numerous national and club matches. According to Opta Jonny, despite initial doubts about his effectiveness, Pollock’s performances have been impressive, particularly given his age and limited experience at the top level. Among forwards playing more than 400 minutes, Pollock averaged 17.4 runs per match and advanced 85 meters per game on average, 20 meters more than any other forward. He also played in six Champions Cup matches during the 2025-2026 season, contributing significantly to Northampton’s run to the final, where they faced Bordeaux. In the semi-final against Leinster, Pollock made 18 tackles, 21 defensive rucks, and covered 59 meters with the ball in hand, achieving the best ratio in the match.
