Stellantis faces major delays in launching new models across Europe, impacting its competitive edge as market share declines.
Stellantis delays new car launches in Europe
Stellantis, a major carmaker, is facing significant delays in launching several new models across its European operations. According to an analysis by Inovev, reported by Auto Infos, many of the company's planned new models are being delayed by a year or more.Key models face major delays
Among the most anticipated models is the new Peugeot e-208, which was initially expected to launch in the fall of 2026 but is now projected to be unveiled in the second half of 2027, with first deliveries potentially not occurring before 2028. Other models, including the future Opel Corsa electric and the Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra, are also facing delays, with their renewals not expected before 2030.Reasons for the delays
The delays are attributed to technical changes decided after the departure of Carlos Tavares, the former CEO, at the end of 2024. The future e-208, initially planned on the STLA Small platform, has shifted to the STLA One platform, which was officially presented in May 2026. This new modular architecture is expected to cover segments B, C, and D and accommodate various motorizations.Financial factors may be involved
Inovev also suggests that financial reasons may be contributing to the delays, as Stellantis is reportedly delaying several launches included in its plan faSTLAne2030 to reduce expenses. These delays are occurring at a time when Stellantis is losing ground in the European market.Stellantis loses market share in Europe
According to figures published by ACEA, the association of European manufacturers, Stellantis accounted for 12.7% of new passenger car registrations in the European Union, the AELE, and the United Kingdom in September, down from 13.4% a year earlier. For the first nine months of the year, its market share stands at 14.5%, compared to 14.8% in 2025.Performance varies across brands
Not all of the group's brands are experiencing the same performance. Peugeot's registrations have decreased by 3.4% over nine months, with its market share dropping from 5% to 4.6%. The declines are more pronounced for Alfa Romeo and DS, whose registrations have decreased by 24.8% and 19.2%, respectively.New models help support current activity
Conversely, Citroën has seen an increase of 12.1%, and Fiat, including Abarth, has increased by 27.6%. On another indicator, consolidated deliveries, Stellantis highlights the contribution of its new models. The Citroën C3, the C3 Aircross, the Opel Frontera, and the Fiat Grande Panda, which share the Smart Car platform, have contributed about 26,000 additional deliveries in the "Extended Europe" region during the third quarter compared to the previous year.
