Exhibition highlights innovative architecture projects

The ENSA Montpellier is hosting the Traverser les marges AJAP 2023 exhibition as part of Architecture Month in Occitanie. The exhibition will remain open until November 20, 2026, showcasing the work of 24 teams recognized for their creativity, commitment, and ability to address current challenges through architecture and landscape design.

Exhibition features diverse and unconventional approaches

The 2023 award list presented in the exhibition is described as the most diverse to date, exploring the boundaries of architecture and landscape professions. Many of the winners are using skills and knowledge beyond their own or adopting new ways of practicing their profession to better respond to the challenges they face.

Focus on environmental and social challenges

The winning projects emphasize environmental restoration, the balance of living systems, and soil preservation. They also advocate for the transformation of everyday heritage, the revitalization of rural communities, and the development of more sustainable construction industries.

New category highlights underrepresented voices

A new category called "Other Paths of Architecture" provides a platform for professionals who were previously less represented, including women. These individuals focus on the social and political aspects of architecture and engage in collective actions in public spaces to involve residents in urban development.

Challenges of innovation in a traditional field

While these professionals aim to address ecological and climate challenges through new ways of thinking and acting, they often find themselves on the margins of the dominant construction industry. This industry is slow to question its traditional standards in terms of program, aesthetics, and technical aspects.
