In a fashion show entirely dedicated to the color and material of gold, the Saint Laurent spring-summer 2027 collection showcased the metal in all its forms—solar, gray, white, lamé, pleated, wrinkled—worn in total looks or as dramatic embellishments on large buttons. The show, held at the Trocadéro in Paris, celebrated the house's history, the allure of glamour, the mystique of the night, and the female icons who have inspired or been dressed by the brand. As the show closed with a performance by Charlotte Gainsbourg, it reflected on five legendary figures whose styles seemed to merge seamlessly with the collection, as if it were tailored for them. One of these figures was Sharon Stone, who portrayed Ginger in Casino, a 1995 film set in the Las Vegas of the 1970s. In the movie, Ginger is a former con artist turned wife of a casino director, and her character wears sparkling, revealing outfits made of gold thread and sequins. Her look, designed to make her stand out, uses crystals, jewelry, and furs to create a glamour that is both dazzling and filled with an underlying sense of danger. Another inspiration was Grace Jones, who performed at the club La Mouche in New York during the disco era. She wore a metallic tunic, open at the front, paired with silk leggings and sequined underwear. Her look captured the essence of 1970s nightlife and highlighted the importance of fashion in defining a stage persona that was distinct from everyday life, almost like a utopian fantasy. Sean Young, who played Rachael in Blade Runner, another 1980s science fiction classic, was also a source of inspiration. Rachael is a replicant, a genetically engineered human, who is unaware of her artificial nature. Her costumes combined elements of film noir with futuristic touches—broad shoulders, defined waists, and high heels—reflecting a wardrobe that evoked power, efficiency, and self-control, even as her humanity was questioned. Delphine Seyrig, who played Countess Elizabeth Bathory in Red Lips, was another iconic figure. The film portrays the countess as a seductive, aristocratic vampire who glows with a thousand lights. Seyrig's character wore a silver lamé dress sewn directly to her skin and a sequined cape, evoking the look of a diva from a different time or a mythological figure. Her glamour was hypnotic and unsettling, seemingly out of time. The Saint Laurent era, under the creative direction of Anthony Vaccarello, seemed to draw its curtain at the Trocadéro, after a show centered on the theme of gold. The collection also paid homage to Annie Lennox, who, in the 1980s as part of the band Eurythmics, wore a golden suit and red platform boots for the single Right By Your Side. Her look shifted gold toward tailoring and androgyny, blending opulence with a challenge to traditional gender norms.
