New Italian supercar unveiled

Angelelli Automobili, a small Italian carmaker based in Rome, has introduced the Tipo 829, a mid-engine supercar designed to challenge well-known brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini. The car was officially presented in early October 2026 and includes a 3.2-liter V6 engine with 500 horsepower, combined with all-wheel drive for better handling on various surfaces.

Engine details remain uncertain

Some internal documents suggest the engine might be a 3.4-liter version instead, indicating the project is still in development. This uncertainty highlights that the Tipo 829 is not yet finalized, and certain aspects of its design and performance are still being refined.

Design and engineering background

The Tipo 829 follows a traditional supercar layout with a central rear engine and a compact frame. It features a 3D-printed chassis and is part of a series of projects developed by engineer Nicola Materazzi, who has worked on several famous Italian supercars. The car is currently only available as digital images and a partial technical description, leaving many questions about its future production.

Three versions with different purposes

Angelelli Automobili plans to offer three versions of the Tipo 829: Terra, Strada, and Pista. The Terra is built for rally and mountain driving, with a chassis suited for mixed surfaces. The Strada is a GT car for high-speed driving on regular roads. The Pista is the most extreme version, featuring aerodynamic improvements like a fixed wing and a larger splitter. However, details about its performance, weight, price, or production numbers are not yet available.

Historical connection and design features

The Tipo 829 is said to be linked to the Lancia Stratos, a famous car that was internally called Tipo 829. The new car has a low, narrow body with a wide splitter, a thin horizontal light bar, and a windshield that provides more cockpit space despite the car's small size. Whether Angelelli Automobili can turn this concept into a real competitor in the high-end supercar market remains to be seen.
