Moto Guzzi unveils new model at EICMA show

The Moto Guzzi The Trip 500 was revealed at the EICMA show in Milan, marking a new direction for the Italian motorcycle brand. Designed as a neo-retro roadster, it targets first-time buyers of larger motorcycles, particularly those with an A2 license.

Targeting A2 license holders

The Trip 500 is tailored for A2 license holders, a category of riders allowed to operate motorcycles with a power output of up to 35 kW (around 47 horsepower). This makes it a suitable entry point for those new to larger motorcycles or returning to riding after a break.

Engine change and technical upgrades

Unlike traditional Moto Guzzi models, The Trip 500 uses a parallel twin engine from Aprilia, derived from the RS and Tuono 457 models. This engine, officially labeled as 500 cm³ but actually 457 cm³, produces 48 horsepower and is designed to meet A2 license requirements without additional restrictions.

Design and handling features

The motorcycle features a new tubular frame with a load-bearing engine and a swingarm adapted from the Aprilia 457 range. It weighs 180 kg when fully fueled and has a seat height of 790 mm, making it easier to handle for new riders. These specifications aim to enhance accessibility and maneuverability.

Retro design with modern touches

The Trip 500 combines a neo-retro aesthetic with modern technology. It includes a 3.6-inch round color TFT screen, retro-illuminated handlebars, and a 15-liter steel tank. The design features a daytime light that mimics the eagle logo of Mandello del Lario, staying true to Moto Guzzi's heritage while embracing contemporary styling.

Equipment and safety features

The motorcycle includes advanced safety features such as traction control, ABS, and a bidirectional quickshifter as an option. It also offers three riding modes—Road, Sport, and Rain—controlled by a ride-by-wire throttle. These features aim to provide both performance and safety for a wide range of riding conditions.
