Apple unveils new Apple Watch Series 12

Apple has released the Apple Watch Series 12 this fall, featuring a new S11 chip and a redesigned heart rate sensor. This new iteration comes alongside the latest iPhone, but it has not received as much attention as other products in the lineup.

Innovations under the hood

The Apple Watch Series 12 introduces the S11 chip, which includes a 64-bit dual-core processor and a four-core Neural Engine. This upgrade promises improved performance and smoother operation of the watchOS, with faster app responses and data loading.

Design and materials

Apple has introduced a new bronze color option for the Apple Watch Series 12, in addition to aluminum and titanium versions. The design remains largely unchanged, with a rectangular case and rounded corners, but the new heart rate sensor is integrated into the back of the watch.

Display and screen protection

The Series 12 retains the same screen resolution and brightness as the Series 11, with a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. The display includes an always-on feature and a new Ceramic Shield 2 for aluminum models, offering better durability compared to previous glass types.

Performance improvements

The S11 chip significantly enhances the performance of the Apple Watch Series 12, making the watch more responsive and efficient. The watchOS 27 also introduces a simplified menu, highlighting the most frequently used apps, which improves user experience.

Software and AI features

watchOS 27 brings a redesigned interface and improved app management, but the new AI-enhanced Siri is not available in the European Union due to regulatory issues. Additionally, the Workout Buddy feature, which provides AI-assisted fitness coaching, is limited to English and Spanish.

Health and fitness tracking

The new heart rate sensor in the Apple Watch Series 12 provides more frequent readings, ensuring continuous tracking during workouts and daily activities. It also introduces a Preparation Level score, which combines activity data, sleep, and recovery metrics to help users decide when to push harder or rest.

Battery life and charging

Apple claims a 24-hour battery life for the Series 12, but real-world testing showed it lasting nearly two days. The charging speed has also improved, with a full charge achievable in about an hour, compared to previous models.

User experience and future expectations

While the Apple Watch Series 12 brings noticeable improvements in tracking and performance, the software features like the Preparation Level and AI enhancements are still limited. Users may find the current offerings insufficient for detailed training adjustments, but the watch remains a strong upgrade for existing owners.
