Adobe has introduced new AI tools for its video editing software, Premiere Pro, and animation tool, After Effects, currently available in beta. These tools aim to streamline the creative process by reducing disruptions and the need to switch between applications. They allow editors to generate video sequences, sound effects, and even music directly within the editing environment, rather than relying on external software or services. In Premiere Pro, the new Generative Media feature can create video sequences based on a simple textual description. It uses existing images from the project as references to ensure visual continuity and smooth transitions. Editors can choose from multiple AI models, including Adobe’s own Firefly, as well as partner models like Google Veo, Kling, Runway, and Luma. This flexibility allows creators to select the best tool for their specific needs without leaving the editing interface. For audio, Adobe has introduced tools that generate soundscapes and music directly in the timeline. Generate Soundscape analyzes up to 15 seconds of video to suggest synchronized background effects, while Generate Music composes tracks with adjustable tempo and looping capabilities. Additional tools like Enhance Audio and Separate Crosstalk help improve audio clarity and separate overlapping voices, respectively. These features are currently in public beta, offering creators a glimpse into Adobe’s future workflow. In After Effects, the AI Assistant is also in public beta. This tool can help with tasks like reorganizing layers, solving technical issues, and even generating expressions—lines of code that automate animations. Unlike some AI tools that operate only on open compositions, Adobe’s assistant can work across the entire project, and its changes remain editable, giving creators more control over the final output. While Adobe’s focus appears to be on seamless integration between AI generation and editing, it remains unclear what the cost of using these AI-generated elements will be. While saving time during the editing process is a clear benefit, creators may also need to consider the financial implications of using AI-generated content in their projects.
