An investigation has been launched after a high school student was injured in the eye by a **LBD** projectile during a demonstration in Argenteuil. The incident took place during a confrontation between police and demonstrators on Thursday morning near the Dalle d'Argenteuil, according to a statement from the prosecutor in Pontoise. The student was taken to a hospital in Paris after being struck by the projectile, which she identified as the cause of her injury. According to the prosecutor, during the confrontation, police officers faced two young men approximately twenty meters away who had fired **mortars**—a type of explosive device—toward them. In response, two police officers used **LBDs**, which are less-lethal devices designed to disperse crowds or stop individuals without causing serious harm. The projectiles fired by the officers struck the two young men, who then fled the scene. The description of the injured student matched one of the two individuals involved in the confrontation. This incident is the fourth investigation opened by the Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN), the internal affairs body of the French National Police, since the start of the student protest movement. Previous investigations were launched after similar incidents in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône (Val-d'Oise), Sevran (Seine-Saint-Denis), and Tours (Indre-et-Loire). These investigations are part of an ongoing effort to assess police conduct during the demonstrations and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards. The use of LBDs has been a topic of discussion in recent protests, as they are intended to minimize harm but can still cause injuries if misused or fired at close range. Authorities have emphasized the importance of investigating such incidents to maintain public trust and ensure that law enforcement actions remain within legal boundaries.
