Test drive in Corsica

A test drive of the Volkswagen ID. Polo in Corsica covered over 500 km, showcasing the car's practicality and performance across varied terrain.

Design and dimensions

The ID. Polo, Volkswagen's new electric model, combines electric technology with classic design elements like a strong C-pillar and a silver piece in the bumper. It is 6.5 cm wider than the thermal Volkswagen Polo, improving handling and in-car space, and 8 cm taller to accommodate the battery under the floor.

Interior features

The car features a 12.9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with physical controls for the air conditioning and a real volume knob accessible to both the driver and front passenger.

Habitability and space

The ID. Polo is considered a benchmark for city cars, offering spacious rear seats and a trunk capacity of 441 liters, significantly more than a 4.90 m long Audi RS 5 Avant. Its rear-wheel drive layout on the MEB+ platform allows for a deep trunk.

Performance and battery options

The 211 horsepower version of the ID. Polo has a 52 kWh NMC battery for a WLTP range of 453 km, while a 37 kWh LFP battery is paired with 116 or 135 horsepower motors for a WLTP range of 323 to 331 km.

Ferry crossing and battery efficiency

During the test, the car crossed a ferry from Bastia to Nice without encountering charging sockets for electric vehicles. The battery had enough charge to complete the trip, with an energy consumption of 11.5 kWh per 100 km on mountainous roads.

Suspension and future models

The ID. Polo's suspension was noted as somewhat harsh with 19-inch wheels, though the driver appreciated the car's design and performance. The ID. Polo GTI, with 226 horsepower, is expected to launch soon, possibly followed by a Clubsport version.

Pricing and rating

The ID. Polo starts at 24,995 € in the Trend trim and ranges from 35,820 € to 39,990 € for the 211 horsepower version in the Life and Style Exclusive trims. The driver gave it a 9/10 rating, emphasizing its versatility and practicality.
