Following the release of Polar OS5 in January, the Finnish company Polar has announced an update to its operating system for sport watches, Polar OS6. This update applies to several models, including the Vantage V3, Vantage M3, Grit X2 Pro, Grit X2, Ignite 3, and Street X. The new software introduces nine additional trend charts that can be viewed directly on the watch screen, allowing users to monitor data trends without needing to open the Polar Flow app on their phones.
One of the new features allows users to customize the top-left button on their watch for different actions during daily use and training, although this option is not available on the Polar Ignite 3. Additionally, sports profile settings can now be adjusted directly on the watch, rather than through the Polar Flow app. The update also introduces a feature that lets users stop charging their watch at 80% instead of 100%, a function commonly found on smartphones from companies like Samsung, Google, and Apple, as well as on devices like the Pixel Watch. This feature is intended for users who leave their watches connected to a charger overnight.
Other improvements include new color options and smoother transitions in the watch’s menus. Dials that were previously exclusive to the Street X model are now available on other models with AMOLED screens. Users can now record their weight directly from the watch, with a graph displaying the last seven entries. The update is available free of charge starting September 30, through synchronization with the Polar Flow app.
Polar had announced over a year ago that it would release an updated version of the Polar Flow app to improve data access, but the delay in the Polar OS6 update has highlighted the company's growing gap compared to competitors like Coros, Suunto, and Garmin.
