In China, automobile manufacturers are expanding their product lines, with **BYD** being especially active in recent months. The company has introduced several new models, including the sedan **Qin Max** and the **Denza Z9S**. BYD is also preparing to launch a new version of its electric city car, the **Seagull**, which is known as the **Dolphin Surf** in Europe. The company has confirmed that the new Seagull will be released in China by the end of the year, though no specific date or timeline has been provided for Europe. According to data from **Car News China**, the current version of the Seagull sold 74,087 units in China from January to August 2026, a significant drop of 66.5%. The new Seagull has been revealed through leaked photos and official images released on September 30. While the design has evolved, it retains some familiar elements, such as a central touchscreen on the dashboard. However, the exact size of the screen has not been confirmed. The current Dolphin Surf features a 10.1-inch screen, but the new model integrates driving information—such as speed, gear, range, and energy consumption—directly into the left side of the touchscreen, which covers about 30% of the display. The right side is dedicated to infotainment features. The new Seagull includes electric seats for passengers, with the driver's seat offering a massage function. It also features ambient lighting and storage space under the rear seats. Magnetic buttons, already used on the **BYD Great Tang**, are also included in the new model. The car has a front trunk (frunk) with a capacity of 94 liters and a rear trunk that expands to 1,380 liters when the rear seats are folded. The exact volume with the seats in place has not yet been disclosed. The car measures 4.21 meters in length, 1.81 meters in width, and 1.57 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.65 meters. This makes it 22 centimeters longer than the current European Dolphin Surf (3.99 meters) and more than 40 centimeters longer than the current Seagull sold in China. The electric motor produces 127 horsepower, compared to 75 horsepower for the current Chinese Seagull. The European Dolphin Surf offers 88 or 156 horsepower depending on the version. The maximum speed of the new Seagull reaches 150 km/h, slightly higher than the current Chinese model and matching the European Dolphin Surf. The new Seagull will be available with two lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, offering 30 and 39.2 kWh of capacity. It may be the new **Blade 2.0**, compatible with **BYD**'s fast-charging system, which could charge the battery from 10 to 97% in nine minutes at the company's charging stations. However, this feature may be limited to the top-of-the-line version with the 39.2 kWh battery. The range is estimated between 320 and 420 kilometers under the Chinese CLTC cycle, or approximately 262 to 344 kilometers under the European WLTP cycle. This is only slightly more than the 322 kilometers of the current European Dolphin Surf, which has a larger 43.2 kWh battery. The new Seagull will also offer an optional **God's Eye B** (DiPilot 300) driving assistance system, which uses a LiDAR sensor on the roof. **BYD** has not yet announced the price, but **Car News China** expects it to be under 100,000 yuan (about 12,700 euros), compared to 69,900 to 85,900 yuan (about 8,900 to 11,000 euros) for the current Seagull. In France, the current Dolphin Surf starts at 19,990 euros. In China, the new Seagull will compete directly with the **Geely EX2** (Xingyuan), currently the best-selling car in the country. The Geely E2, known as the Geely E2 in Europe, is also available in France starting at 20,990 euros and includes a front trunk. Until **BYD** releases a European version of the new Seagull, the current Dolphin Surf remains its main competitor in Europe.
