Aurelia Orsini is responsible for managing applications for the Erasmus + program at the France Travail office in Bastia, Corsica. This program allows job seekers to take part in 3 or 6 month internships in European countries like Ireland or Malta, with the aim of enriching their professional and personal experiences and potentially finding employment. From October 12 to 16, the Erasmus Days will be held at various France Travail offices across Corsica, offering consultations to those interested in gaining professional experience in European capitals. In Bastia, Aurelia Orsini will be in charge of welcoming job seekers who are considering internships in Ireland or Malta. Since the program's launch in Corsica, 126 people have participated in internships in companies across the European Union. Applications are submitted in advance, and candidates are then interviewed. Consultations will be held in Bastia, L'Île-Rousse, Corte, or Ajaccio. At the regional level, the program is managed by Sandra Serpaggi at the regional office in Ajaccio. Once in their host country, interns are welcomed by a tutor appointed by Cap Ulysse Bordeaux, a partner of France Travail for Erasmus +. The tutor ensures a connection with the host company and also helps find accommodation for the intern. For some, the experience opens up new professional opportunities beyond France. This is the case of a former intern, aged 50, who recently obtained a permanent position in Ireland. She was hired by the company where she completed her Erasmus + internship. After spending three months there, she secured a permanent role and decided to move to Cork, Ireland. The Erasmus + program has been in place since 2015 and is available to all unemployed individuals, without restrictions on age or educational background. Internships lasting 3 to 6 months are offered, with departures possible throughout the year. Accepted candidates are considered vocational trainees. The state covers all costs: transportation, accommodation, insurance, and half-board. "We receive an average of ten applications per year," explains Aurelia Orsini. Applications are submitted in advance, and candidates are then interviewed. These interviews last about an hour, during which job seekers present their project. It is also a time to assess their motivations. The first half hour is dedicated to this. Then, they are invited to continue the discussion in English to evaluate their language skills. However, this is not a barrier to being accepted into Erasmus +. All areas of activity are considered. For example, a young person who works in a gym in La Valette wants to become a sports coach. All profiles fit within the Erasmus + program. For this new session, Ireland and Malta remain the two proposed destinations. However, in 2027, interns are expected to go further south. The calls for tenders will be launched soon for the next campaign. Everything suggests that Spain and Italy will be included, as well as a Scandinavian country. Erasmus + allows motivated job seekers to discover Europe from a professional perspective. It is an opportunity to train, gain experience, and sometimes turn a few months of internship into a lasting job. A collective information session is scheduled for October 12 via videoconference for those interested in learning more about the program.
