Geely's European strategy takes shape

Chinese automaker Geely is planning a major shift in its European operations, focusing on creating vehicles tailored for European drivers rather than adapting models made for the Chinese market. The first of these new models is expected to be revealed as early as 2027.

Design and development in Europe

The new model is being designed in Geely's Milan-based design center, emphasizing a local approach. Dennis Weinel, head of products at Geely Europe, stated that the vehicle will initially target the European market before being offered elsewhere globally.

Details remain under wraps

For now, Geely has not disclosed specifics about the new model, including its size, engine, or price range. The company is exploring a range of electrified solutions, not just electric vehicles, and is addressing feedback on its current models, particularly the multimedia system.

Improving user experience

Geely is working on an updated version of its Flyme interface, aiming for more personalization, shared displays, and better organization of information. Engineers are also refining driving assistance systems, focusing on less intrusive sound alerts that still meet regulatory standards.

Expanding production in Europe

Geely's strategy includes expanding its manufacturing footprint in Europe. In July 2026, the company announced a partnership with Ford to produce vehicles at a plant in Valencia, Spain. Two electric models from Geely are expected to be assembled there starting in 2028.

Long-term goals and challenges

The company aims to become a major player in the European market, but it remains to be seen whether its future models will successfully appeal to European consumers.
