Driveclub becomes playable on PC

The racing game Driveclub, originally released in 2014 for PlayStation 4, is now playable natively on Windows computers thanks to modders. This marks the first time the game can be run without relying on PlayStation hardware.

Modding community creates new version

A modding group called OverkillLabs3 developed a project named DriveClub Recomp, which allows the game to run directly on PC without emulating the PlayStation 4’s processor. This version supports higher resolutions, ultra-wide screens, and higher frame rates than the original.

Enhanced features and performance

The new PC version includes advanced graphical features such as NVIDIA DLAA and AMD FSR 3.1 Native AA, as well as support for controllers, keyboards, and custom modifications. According to the developers, a high-end PC configuration can achieve around 60 FPS in native 4K resolution.

Performance improvements and limitations

A recent update to DriveClub Recomp reportedly improved performance by about 15% in some tests. However, the modded versions are still experimental and may have graphical bugs or slowdowns. Additionally, the original online multiplayer features are not available in these ports.

Legal and technical requirements

Players must already own a legally obtained copy of Driveclub to use these PC ports. The projects are not officially supported by Evolution Studios, the game’s original developer, and remain in active development by the modding community.
