Vivo has introduced its latest X500 series of smartphones in China, featuring three models, with the X500 Pro Max being the most expensive and the successor to the X300 Ultra. The X500 Pro Max is designed for photography enthusiasts, offering a triple front camera setup that includes ultra-wide, main, and telephoto lenses from Zeiss, a well-known name in optical technology. The main lens has a 24mm focal length, which is wider than the 35mm lens on the previous X300 Ultra, allowing for more expansive shots. The telephoto lens offers a 3.5x zoom with an 85mm equivalent focal length and can capture images at a high 200MP resolution, while the ultra-wide and main cameras each provide 50MP resolution.
To enhance the photography experience, the X500 Pro Max comes with a photographer's kit that includes two telephoto converters, a grip, and extra cases, all packaged in a sleek black box. The phone also features additional lenses, including a 4.7x teleconverter and a 2.35x lens, allowing users to capture more detailed and varied shots. The X500 series was officially announced on September 21 and is currently only available in China. While a broader release is expected in the future, it is unlikely to be available in the United States.
The X500 Pro Max is equipped with Sony's new Lytia L910 image sensor, which uses LOFIC (Light-Optimized Field Integration Circuit) technology to improve dynamic range. This 50-megapixel sensor, measuring 1/1.28-inch, allows the phone to capture images with what Vivo calls a "true 17 EV ultra-high dynamic range." This surpasses the 16.5 stops of dynamic range claimed by the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, making it one of the most advanced sensors in the market. Additionally, the phone supports slow-motion video recording, made possible by new silicon from both Sony and MediaTek, enhancing its appeal for content creators and videographers.
Vivo’s X500 series marks a significant step forward in smartphone photography, particularly with the X500 Pro Max, which targets professional and serious amateur photographers. The combination of high-end hardware, specialized lenses, and advanced image processing technology positions the X500 Pro Max as a top contender in the premium smartphone market, especially in China. While international availability remains uncertain, the phone's features suggest that it is designed to compete with other high-end devices in terms of both performance and imaging capabilities.
