Vivo has introduced its latest flagship smartphone series, the X500, which includes three new models. Along with the phones, the company launched a new monitoring screen as part of a photographer's kit, which can also be bought separately. At the moment, all the phones and accessories are only available in China, with no official word on when they might be released in other countries. The monitoring screen, sometimes called a "selfie screen," acts as a secondary display that mirrors the phone's camera app. It allows users to control key camera settings and track subjects more precisely. The screen can be attached to the phone magnetically or used as a remote monitor within Bluetooth range. It is designed to work with the advanced front-facing cameras on the X500 Pro Max, which includes a 50MP main camera and a 200MP 3.5x telephoto lens for detailed close-up shots. Compared to similar products like the Insta360 Snap Selfie Screen, which requires a cable connection and has a smaller display, Vivo's new screen is considered more advanced. It features a 3.92-inch AMOLED display with 419 pixels per inch (PPI), making it sharp and clear. The screen is also lightweight and thin, measuring just 5.65mm and weighing 68 grams. It includes a USB-C port for charging and three side buttons for controls like recording and adjusting brightness. The monitor can be purchased separately or as part of a photographer’s kit that includes two teleconverter lenses. It comes with a magnetic case that resembles Apple’s MagSafe design. The price is listed at 699 Chinese Yuan, which is roughly $105 or £78, though international prices could be higher. One downside is that the phone and the screen are not compatible with MagSafe technology, meaning users need a special case to attach them. It's also unclear which other devices, besides the X500 series, might work with the monitoring screen.
