Costco, a popular warehouse-style retail store based in Washington, has partnered with two major food delivery services, DoorDash and Uber Eats, to offer delivery of its products from its U.S. stores. This means that Costco members can now have groceries, household items, and electronics delivered directly to their homes, provided they link their membership to their DoorDash or Uber Eats account. DoorDash, a San Francisco-based company, noted that Costco was among the most-searched retailers not yet available on its platform, making this a significant expansion for the service. This nationwide delivery partnership with Costco is a first for DoorDash, which had previously offered limited Costco delivery in select international markets like Australia, Sweden, and Puerto Rico. Costco has around 81 million members worldwide, with the majority in the U.S., where it operates 639 stores across 47 states. Previously, Costco relied on Instacart for delivery services for nearly a decade before announcing its partnership with Uber Eats in 2024. However, under that initial agreement, Uber Eats only delivered from Costco in 17 states. On Tuesday, Uber Eats announced it would expand Costco delivery to all U.S. states, aligning its service with DoorDash's new nationwide offering. Uber Eats already provided Costco delivery in several other countries, including Japan, France, Spain, Canada, and Mexico. This expansion highlights a growing trend among delivery services to offer a wider range of grocery and retail options to consumers. Both DoorDash and Uber Eats have been increasing their presence in the U.S. grocery delivery market in recent years. Earlier this year, both companies announced partnerships with Kroger, the largest supermarket chain in the United States. These collaborations reflect the growing demand for convenient home delivery of everyday goods and the increasing competition among delivery services to meet that demand.
