Walmart has expanded its restaurant delivery service through a new partnership with Dunkin’, allowing customers to order Dunkin’ drinks and meals alongside their groceries. The partnership, announced Thursday, initially covers the 150 Dunkin’ locations inside Walmart stores nationwide. The service is expected to eventually expand to the majority of Dunkin’s nearly 10,000 U.S. locations outside Walmart stores. Customers in eligible areas can find Dunkin’ in the Restaurants tab on Walmart’s app and website based on their delivery address. They can browse the menu, customize their orders, and check out through the same platform they use for Walmart purchases.
This expansion builds on Walmart’s growing partnerships with restaurants inside its stores. In June, Walmart announced it had reached 150 Dunkin’ locations nationwide. The retailer also launched express delivery from select in-store restaurants over the summer, including Subway, allowing customers to have restaurant orders delivered alongside their groceries. The Subway service initially launched at Walmart stores in select states with plans to reach all nearly 1,400 Walmart locations with in-store Subway restaurants by the end of July.
Walmart says its extensive store network will help it expand restaurant delivery, with about 90 percent of the U.S. population living within 10 miles of a Walmart store. Greg Cathey, senior vice president of eCommerce Fulfillment Transformation at Walmart, stated in a statement that the future of retail is about meeting customers wherever they are and simplifying their lives. He added that expanding restaurant delivery beyond stores offers a value and convenience proposition that is unmatched.
Scott Murphy, Dunkin’ Brand President and Inspire Chief Brand Officer, said the partnership gives customers another way to order the chain’s food and drinks. He noted that the goal is to make it easier for guests to enjoy Dunkin’ whenever and wherever they want it. By bringing Dunkin’ into the Walmart shopping experience, the company is creating another convenient way for guests to get their favorite beverages and meals at the speed of Dunkin’. Murphy added that combining the strength of Walmart’s delivery platform with the appeal of the Dunkin’ menu can reach more guests in more moments, creating an experience that fits naturally into everyday life.
