Amazon has introduced a new version of its Echo Studio in 2025, which is significantly smaller—about 40 percent smaller—and has a nearly spherical design. This update aims to compete with other smart speakers like the Sonos Era 100 and 300, the Apple HomePod 2, and the JBL Authentics 500. The Echo Studio (2025) can also function as an alternative to soundbars when used with Amazon's Fire TV. In France, the French retailer Cdiscount is currently selling the Echo Studio (2025) for 175 euros, a discount from its usual price of 239.99 euros, using the code 15DES129, which is valid until a specific date. The 2025 version of the Echo Studio has a slightly flattened spherical shape to improve stability and internal space. It is covered with a 3D-knitted fabric and weighs 1.63 kg. Inside, it has four speakers, including a dedicated woofer for bass, delivering powerful sound with deep bass and a sense of immersion for Dolby Atmos content. The device automatically adjusts the sound based on the room without needing manual settings. However, compared to some high-fidelity or connected speakers at a similar price, the Echo Studio is less neutral and less precise, a difference that may be more noticeable to audiophiles than to the average consumer. Amazon positions the Echo Studio not only as a music device but also as an audio system for television when paired with compatible Fire TV models. Up to five units can be used to create a 5.1 surround sound setup, though mixing Echo Studio with Echo Dot Max is not allowed. The device has a latency issue that makes it unsuitable for video gaming, leading Amazon to advise users to switch the sound back to the TV for gaming purposes. The Echo Studio (2025) includes the AZ3 Pro chip, which powers Alexa+, a version of Alexa enhanced with generative artificial intelligence. Alexa+ became available in France on May 26, 2026, in early access and in waves, and is included in Prime subscriptions. However, the ecosystem remains closed, with much of the interest relying on Fire TV or other Amazon services. The Echo Studio primarily targets households that already use Amazon products.
