Pau, a city in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region of France, is taking part in Octobre Rose, a nationwide campaign dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer. This annual event, held in October, aims to educate the public about the disease, encourage early detection, and support those affected. The city has released its schedule for the month, which includes a variety of activities such as group discussions, solidarity walks, and film screenings with follow-up debates. These events are designed to foster community engagement and provide practical information about breast cancer prevention and treatment. One of the visual highlights of the campaign in Pau is the transformation of the Boulevard des Pyrénées. Three large letters will glow pink at nightfall, symbolizing the campaign's name and drawing attention to the cause. On October 13, a conference on reconstruction after illness will be held at 6:00 PM at Les Gourmandises de Toques restaurant, located on the rue de la République. The event will focus on recovery and the emotional and physical challenges faced by cancer survivors. A film by Stéphanie Pillonca, titled Le souffle du dragon, which addresses breast cancer, will be shown for free at the Centre Social du Hameau on Wednesday, October 14, at 2:00 PM. The screening will be followed by a discussion organized by the Centre Régional de Coordination de Dépistage des Cancers and the Maison de Santé du Hameau. The Ligue contre le cancer des Pyrénées-Atlantiques is also organizing restricted discussion groups where participants can learn how to perform a self-examination using a silicone torso and ask questions in a supportive environment. In addition to these events, a family walk in honor of Sonia Aristouy, who died of cancer at the age of 40 and founded an association to support people affected by breast cancer through sports, will take place on October 18 at 10:00 AM. The walk will start at Place Clemenceau and pass through the Château de Pau and the Hédas neighborhood before reaching Les Halles. A dance performance specifically created for Octobre Rose, performed by the troupe Elephant in The Black Box, is scheduled for October 24 at 11:45 AM on Place Clemenceau. The city will continue to host various activities throughout the month to support research on breast cancer. The full program is available online.
