RailStock Finland orders 21 train units

RailStock Finland Oy, a Finnish public company, has ordered 21 electric multiple units called Flirt Sm7 from Stadler Rail, a Swiss train manufacturer. The order was made on October 30, 2026, under an option from a framework contract originally signed by Finnish Railways VR in 2022.

Contract transfer to RailStock Finland

RailStock Finland took over the contract from Finnish Railways VR in March 2026. The original agreement included the supply of 20 train units with an option to order up to 50 more. The first 20 units are expected to be delivered by the end of 2027.

Features of the Flirt Sm7 train units

The Flirt Sm7 units consist of four carriages and are built for a 1524 mm gauge, which is standard in many European countries. They can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h and have a total passenger capacity of 700, with 340 seats. They are specifically designed for the Nordic climate, featuring reinforced snowplows, heated floors, and improved thermal insulation to ensure comfort in cold weather.

Production and delivery of the second order

The 21 units from the second order will be manufactured at Stadler’s facility in Siedlce, Poland. These units are expected to be delivered by 2030, extending Finland’s rail network with newer, climate-adapted train models.
